Press Statement
British government paid all its debts to the Islamic Republic of Iran
After more than four decades, the British historic debt to Iran has been repaid with accrued interest, through orchestrated efforts by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in close cooperation with other Iranian organizations.
After more than four decades, the British historic debt to Iran has been repaid with accrued interest, through orchestrated efforts by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in close cooperation with other Iranian organizations.
Moreover, we confirm that Nazanin Zaghari and Anousheh Ashouri, both of whom were sentenced to prison in a fair trial for committing crimes, were released from prison after spending part of their imprisonment for humanitarian purposes by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Contrary to claims in certain media, the release of the two persons is not linked with over 40-year-old British debt, which is an undeniable right of the Iranian people. The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has full authority and freedom on how to spend its financial resources.
